Noisy Neighbours!

January 30th, 2012

This is A 10×8 inch oil painting of Taz, a spectacular Maine Coon, looking up at a robin on a branch. I loved his expression and his coat is just a joy to paint! So full of gorgeous colours!

I wanted to capture his inner lion. Not sure if I’ve done that but he’s beautiful to paint.

The robin is a neighbour of ours. We watch him and his family going about their lives throughout the year.

I think I should call it noisy neighbours! :-)

Toffee and Thistle

January 26th, 2012

This is one of my favourite paintings. I just love these two Bengals. They are so gorgeous and the position they’re curled up really makes me smile. It was such a joy to paint! I just wish I could have kept it.

Toffee and Thistle - two Bengal cats

Toffee and Thistle
14×11 acrylic on board
SOLD

This is a 14×11 inch acrylic painting on board. The background is made up of several layers of paint, the base colour was a warm pink with cooler lilacs over the top. As a result the background changes colour as the lighting changes, going from warm pinks to cool lilacs. Looks amazing but is very hard to photograph!

Here are a couple of close ups of the painting.

Save the Tiger

January 13th, 2012

TigerTime – Save the Tiger

The Premier of China, Wen Jiabao has publicly stated that he is committed to saving the wild tiger. However, his government is allowing trade in tiger skins from tiger farms and skins taken before poaching was outlawed. This trade is acting as a smokescreen for skins taken by killing wild tigers. If China does not stop this trade, the wild tiger is doomed.

Ladybird, Ladybird Fly Away Home

January 6th, 2012

This is the winner of the Black Cat Awareness Day photo competition. I created a 10×8 oil painting from the winning photo, Molly in the grass. She has such a focused look as she stares through the grass so I added a ladybird to the painting.

Molly And The Ladybird
10×8 oil on canvas board

It reminds me of the nursery rhyme ladybird, ladybird fly away home. I imagine she’s just about to do that.

Here is a close up detail.
