A Commissioned Cat PaintingHarley
Acrylic on canvas The Initial IdeasHarley is a striking black and white cat. His owner sent me a range of different photos as well as one special pose. I loved the pose and thought he'd look wonderful surrounded by the rich colours of a summer garden.
I did a series of quick sketches as there were several ideas I thought would work as well as a more detailed sketch of how the pose that his owner had picked showing how it might look once it was painted in oils. This sketch included the garden and the colours I thought would work for Harley.
The Painting ProcessThe painting was started with a wash of burnt sienna across the canvas and then layers of paint gradually building the image.
